WOW Update - January 26, 2009
Happy New Year WOW supporters!
We are very excited to be starting the New Year with such exciting news regarding our opening. After
years of hard work and dedication, the World of Wonders Science Museum
has been approved for lift off!

The WOW will be opening its doors with a two-day grand opening, March 7 and 8, from 10am
to 5pm. The WOW will then remain open:
- Spring Break (March 14 through March 29),
- Easter Vacation (April 4 through April 11, closed Easter Sunday, April 12), and
- All Weekends
The WOW Science Store will also be open for the Grand Opening with science based toys,
games, stuffed animals and apparel to delight and amaze all of our visitors.
Week at the Museum "Soft Opening"
Erica Naves, volunteer, Brian Martin, first visitor with his dad, Scot Martin
Thanks to everyone who volunteered and attended our nine-day "soft opening" over the holidays. Here are some
interesting facts about the event:
- Our peak day saw 414 attendees, and average day attendance was over 200
- Total attendance exceeded 2,400!
- The average visit was for two hours
- The average age of children attending was slightly younger than we expected, and the number of
adults visiting without children was higher than anticipated.
- Attendees' ages ranged from one to one hundred.
- Special activities like "Constellation Station", "The Science of Paper Airplanes" and
"Build-a-Robot" were so successful that volunteer staff had to be doubled.
We received wonderful TV coverage from Good Day Sacramento on the first day of opening,
and front page coverage from the Lodi News Sentinel and Stockton Record.
Later, the Sacramento Bee published a story that encouraged needed financial support from
the region. Thanks to everyone in the media who helped promote the Museum.
Thank You AT&T!
AT&T has given a generous $13,440 donation for needed multimedia equipment. Thank you for believing in us
and helping to keep us alive!

- and much more!

next birthday party.
Field Study Trips
The World of Wonders Science Museum has long-awaited the opportunity to provide science education
programs to our schools and children. As of February 1, we are scheduling science field study trips.
Students spend their time at the WOW exploring exhibits, answering science questions, and participating
in fun science labs. Using the California State Education Science Standard (K-6), The WOW supplies teachers
with exhibit information and instruction according to the science standards for each grade level.
Giving teachers these tools allows them to make their day at the WOW as beneficial and grade appropriate
as possible for themselves and most importantly their students.
Contact the WOW to find out how you
can bring this fun and educational experience to the teachers and children in your community!

The next volunteer meeting is this next Thursday, 6:30 pm at the WOW. This is an open meeting to
all who would love to volunteer time to help make your World of Wonders Science Museum all that it can be.
